what a day!

July 22, 2010

It was crazy today! Got the front and back walls stood, the parti wall framed and stood, and then my awesome volunteers went on to build all the interior walls, as well as stand and cap plate most of them. Crazy…. and then that will put my unit back on schedule for the crane tomorrow, which will lift the trusses up to the second floor.

this morning, only one wall stood. I'll have to take an "after" picture tomorrow morning.

Road-trippin’ on the 4th

July 11, 2010

So… I wanted to go somewhere for this 3-day weekend.

Went to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, drove through some beautiful mountains (different than the Front Range, for sure),  stayed in Silverton for a night (there was an awesome fireworks show!), and drove up to Grand Junction and the Colorado National Monument. The road to Silverton was like CA’s Highway 1- crazy curves, sheer cliff to one side, and this was at 10,000 feet in elevation and in the rain…

Next road trips: one big loop to Mesa Verde NP and Arches NP. And then another big loop up to Devil’s Tower, Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands.

Carmen in CO (in June)

July 11, 2010

June was quite the adventure; spent a week in Iowa (no pictures, but… “Night of 200 Beers,” thunderstorms, and cornfields pretty much sums it up) and before that, Carmen came to visit!

Carmen! in the mountains!

Summit Lake

Oh yeah, we were at Mt. Evans. 14,270 feet above sea level. "America's highest paved automobile road"

Ben in CO (in March)

July 11, 2010

* looking through my sd card, I discovered a few adventures that I had yet to post

So my brother came to visit during his spring break and we went on a grand tour of Colorado. Actually, we hit up the Great Sand Dunes NP (hiking) and Rocky Mountain NP (snowshoeing), as well as Garden of the Gods, Red Rocks, etc. One day, we saw lots of sand and then next day, we saw lots of snow…

it's like the desert...

went sledding, it's just a pain to carry the saucer

Started at a new site this week- 4 duplexes, 8 families! We’re working on the first 2 duplexes right now, starting from pouring the rat slab and working on the sub floor system.

one duplex, I'm leading the unit on the left, a single mom and her two kids will be living here

pouring concrete for the rat slab, we had 20+ volunteers lift that steel I-beam into place
